Racial Offenses, Stereotypes, and Big Butts
Posted on 04/13/2007 by adminAfter hearing, appreciating, agreeing with, and disagreeing with (depending on the moment) most arguments on the topic, I finally heard a well put, succinct explanation of why it’s not OK for Don Imus to call the Rutgers women’s basket ball team a bunch of “nappy headed ho’s”, but it is OK for every two-bit comedian to play the racial card with 90% of their jokes, or for Snoop Dogg to talk about N***ers, Ho’s, F’ing Ho’s, Fat F’ing Ho’s, etc in his songs. It came from the sole proud female member of Viper Division, of all people.”If I go up to Chelsea and tell her I have a big butt, and we discuss the fact that I have a big butt, how funny my big butt is, and how all Norwegian’s have huge butts, there’s no problem. But if someone else goes out to our blog and talks about how big my butt is, it’s offensive.”
Well said. I wish Matt Lauer could get that across.
